The Viavi (formerly JDSU) OLA-55 is a high-performance singlemode fibre optical attenuator designed for field and laboratory use in the installation, maintenance, and testing of singlemode optical networks, including systems operating up to 40 Gbps. It supports bit error rate testing (BERT) applications and is used to emulate fibre loss for system dynamics testing.
The OLA-55 features the SMARTWheel for precise and fast manual attenuation adjustment, the SMARTStar graphical user interface for intuitive and straightforward operation, and the SMARTEnergy power management system delivering over 1000 hours of battery life. Measurements are traceable to NIST/PTB standards, and the instrument is built to withstand demanding field environments with a shock-proof, splash-proof enclosure. Operation is possible with one hand in the field, with quick-start functionality requiring no warm-up time.
