The Viavi (JDSU) MTS 8000e is a modular, portable mainframe platform designed for testing CWDM, DWDM, and ROADM-based optical networks with full-band, high-performance optical spectrum analysis. The OSA-500RS module represents VIAVI's advanced field-portable spectral test solution, combining free-space optics technology with full-band measurement capability across 1250–1650 nm.

The OSA-500RS features VIAVI's unique in-band OSNR measurement method based on the Optical Polarization Splitting (OPS) technique, enabling true in-band OSNR measurements in ROADM-based systems where conventional interpolation methods are insufficient. A fast polarisation controller significantly reduces in-band OSNR measurement time. Internal online wavelength calibration eliminates the need for recalibration in the field, reducing service costs and downtime.
