The Viavi (JDSU) MTS 6000A V2 mainframe is fitted with the E8138C-65 Single-Mode OTDR module, configured for very long range fibre characterisation. The module supports triple-wavelength testing at 1310/1550 nm and in-service/live/filtered 1650 nm, with a peak dynamic range of 47.5 dB and measurement range up to 400 km. Event dead zone is an impressive 0.6 m, with an attenuation dead zone of 2 m. Pulse width is selectable from 2 ns to 20 µs. Splitter attenuation dead zone is 25 m after a 15 dB splitter loss, or 60 m after an 18 dB splitter loss. The APC connector is fitted as standard.

The Viavi (formerly JDSU) T-BERD/MTS 6000A V2 is a compact, modular, multi-application network test platform designed for the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of fibre optic and transport networks. Its scalable single-module carrier design allows field technicians to configure the instrument for a wide range of current and future test requirements by swapping test modules.

The E8138C-65 is a very long range single-mode OTDR module delivering industry-leading dynamic range for the characterisation of long-haul and ultra-long-haul fibre spans. It supports in-service fibre testing at 1650 nm using a filtered wavelength approach, allowing technicians to test live fibres without service interruption.
