The VIAVI E980TUXOSX (also referenced as E98OTUXOSX) is a purpose-built interconnect cable kit designed to connect the OSX8000 external optical switch to the OTU-8000 Optical Test Unit mainframe. It is a required accessory when expanding the OTU-8000's optical port capacity using one or more OSX8000 external switches.

The OSX8000 is a 1x36 port external optical switch that supplements the internal switching capability of the OTU-8000 platform. When the OSX8000 is used, it replaces the internal OTAU plug-in module, and this cable provides the physical control and communication link between the two units.

The OTU-8000 Optical Test Unit is a rack-mounted, automated fibre test platform that combines OTDR and optical-switch technology to provide continuous OTDR monitoring of multiple fibres across the network. The platform is fully modular and supports a wide range of OTDR modules, wavelengths, and dynamic ranges.
