The Stryker Hoffmann II External Fixation System is a modular external fixation system designed for long bones, the pelvis, femur, humerus, and other complex fracture applications. Originally conceived by Dr. Raoul Hoffmann in 1938, the Hoffmann II builds upon the foundational principles of modular design and the ability to reduce fractures and make post-operative corrections to fragment alignment in three planes with the frame in situ. The system is considered the gold standard in modular external fixation and is unmatched in ease-of-use, versatility, and patient comfort.

The system uses Ø8mm rods and posts, compatible with Ø4, Ø5, and Ø6mm Apex pins. Carbon fibre connecting rods provide radiolucency, reducing imaging interference. The modular architecture allows surgeons to construct unilateral, bilateral, biplanar, and hybrid frame configurations from a common set of components — including pin clamps, rod-to-rod couplings, straight and angled posts, and thumbwheel assemblies — to suit the clinical requirements of each individual case.

Indications include:
• Stabilisation of open and/or unstable long bone fractures
• Pelvic ring disruptions and complex pelvic fractures
• Femur, tibia, and humerus fractures
• Cases where soft tissue injury precludes the use of internal fixation, IM nailing, or casting
• Post-operative correction of fragment alignment
• Temporary stabilisation pending definitive fixation
