The Olympus UPLSAPO20X is part of the UPLSAPO Super Apochromat objective series, part of the Olympus UIS2 optical system. These objectives apply Olympus' original UW multicoating to fully compensate for both spherical and chromatic aberrations across the visible to near-infrared region, delivering sharp, colour-accurate images free of colour shift in fluorescence, brightfield, and Nomarski DIC observations.

The high sensitivity to fluorescence emissions makes the UPLSAPO series well suited to demanding digital imaging applications, including confocal laser scanning microscopy, widefield fluorescence, live-cell imaging, and multicolour observation. The dry (air) immersion design with a standard RMS (W20.32×0.706) thread ensures broad compatibility with Olympus BX40, BX41, BX45, BX50, BX51, BX61, IX, and CX series microscopes.
