It combines DSL, ISDN, POTS, Ethernet, IP, and VoIP testing capabilities into a single ruggedised portable instrument, making it well-suited for installation verification, fault diagnosis, and service qualification across a wide range of copper access technologies.

The Argus 163 supports multiple DSL variants including ADSL Annex B and J as well as VDSL, alongside ISDN BRI (S/T and U interfaces), POTS, and Ethernet. Its modular software licensing architecture allows individual test capabilities — from basic copper line scope and physical qualification through to advanced IP-layer testing, TR-069 management, and VoIP analysis — to be activated as required. The unit can operate in both Bridge Mode and Router Mode for flexible IP network testing, and supports IPv6 for next-generation network environments.
