The EXFO FIP-400-D is the dedicated handheld display viewer (Fiber Probe Viewer) for the FIP-400 Fiber Inspection Probe system. It provides a portable, battery-powered screen solution for field technicians who need to inspect fiber connector endfaces without access to a PC or EXFO test platform. The FIP-400 system as a whole is widely regarded as one of the most versatile fiber inspection probe platforms available, capable of operating with a PC via USB 2.0, with EXFO test sets, or standalone using the FIP-400-D handheld viewer.

The FIP-400 probe at the heart of the system uses a 1/3-inch CMOS video camera, a blue coaxial LED light source, and an adjustable focus mechanism to deliver optical resolution of less than 2 µm (0.7 µm typical). The dual-magnification model supports both 200X and 400X magnification. The viewer displays the live video feed from the probe, allowing inspection of single-fiber and multi-fiber connector endfaces for contamination, scratches, and physical damage.

Key applications include patchcord inspection, patch panel bulkhead inspection, and quality assurance in both field and manufacturing environments. The slim probe design allows access to hard-to-reach connectors without stressing adjacent fibers.
