The Edwards XDS100B is a dry scroll booster pump with a pumping mechanism designed specifically for high pumping speed. It is a truly oil-free vacuum pump — all bearings with their hydrocarbon lubricant are completely isolated from the vacuum space by an innovative bearing shield, making the pump hermetically sealed and free from contamination risk. The XDS100B cannot exhaust directly to atmosphere and must be backed by a primary pump; it is intended for use in conjunction with Edwards XDS35i or XDS46i scroll pumps. It is optimised for maximum pumping speed at inlet pressures between 1 mbar and 10 mbar, resulting in virtually no tip seal wear, reduced service intervention, and maximised uptime. The motor is controlled by an inverter which manages the supply of current in accordance with operating conditions, ensuring consistent performance on both 50 and 60 Hz single-phase supplies. The pump does not have a gas ballast option as condensation is not likely to occur at its normal operating pressure. The pump body includes a fixed scroll and an orbiting scroll made from anodised aluminium. It is air-cooled by a fan mounted at the opposite end to the motor, which continues to run for one minute after the pump is switched off. An integrated hours counter records total pump run time. The pump carries ATEX Category 3 certification for internal atmospheres (II 3 G c IIB T4).
