The BT Blown Fibre Blowing Unit 3A is the next generation in blown fibre installation technology, designed as a direct replacement for the earlier 2A model. Incorporating a highly efficient air delivery system, the 3A uses significantly less airflow than its predecessor, allowing it to perform to the same installation standard using considerably smaller compressors — such as the lightweight Fibrevane 70 range.

Powered by an onboard rechargeable battery pack, the 3A eliminates the need for a separate mains power supply during field operations. The intuitive control unit features an integrated load facility to simplify the loading of the fibre unit, and automatically adjusts installation speed based on route length and the number of bends encountered.

If an installation cannot be completed within a single session, the unit saves distance and associated force data so that the blow can be resumed at a later time. The 3A also incorporates a fibre recovery feature: using the optional 820A kit, air is connected at the far end and the unit controls the recovery speed of the fibre from the route.

The blowing head is designed to mount on the 18A dispenser, which can be used in tight or congested spaces — such as during centre blowing — by disconnecting the platform from the regulator and gauge section.
