The Occuity PM1 is the world's first handheld, non-contact, optical pachymeter. Developed by Occuity Ltd (Reading, UK), the PM1 uses a patented confocal scanning optical technique — a tightly focused beam of invisible light is scanned through the cornea and reflections from the front and back corneal surfaces are detected and analysed to determine corneal thickness precisely, without any physical contact with the eye.

Unlike traditional ultrasound pachymeters, the PM1 requires no anaesthetic eye drops, no disposable probes, and no physical contact, dramatically reducing chair time, infection risk, and consumable costs. Once aligned, the device automatically captures over 200 scans per second and immediately displays the averaged Central Corneal Thickness (CCT) result alongside a standard deviation (precision) figure.

The PM1 is CE marked and has been validated in clinical trials led by City St George's University of London in collaboration with Moorfields Eye Hospital optometrists. It is suited for use in optometry practices, glaucoma screening, refractive surgery clinics, keratoconus screening, myopia management, and cataract clinics.
